Global Trends: Israel-Palestine Protests

ASTRA API (1)

The 7 October 2023 attack by Hamas against Israel triggered a wave of global demonstrations supporting either Israel or Palestine. In particular, the Israeli ground operation in Gaza has fuelled a significant public backlash against Israel. Our Global Demonstrations dataset captured more than 3,140 organised protests globally via social media posts, predominantly on Instagram and Facebook. Protests peaked on 4 November 2023; they plateaued for around two weeks before slowing down in December 2023. Scheduled protest activity typically spikes on weekends; we have observed a relatively equal week-by-week proportion of weekend protests to weekday protests.

Our Data and Analytics desk is tracking the protests and registering their location and nature to provide our clients with the necessary information to plan and prevent disruptions. This report analyses the trends of the protests, using social media and proprietary Artificial Intelligence (AI) data collection software to monitor and gather information about upcoming protests and provide actionable information to clients.
